Our Story

Here at Kian Seng Heng Bicycle Trader, we are committed to provide top notch quality in the services we provide - Bicycle sales, custom building, repairs and maintenance. For close to 60 years, we have served cyclists from all walks of life. Over the years, the experience and proficiency we've developed aided us in establishing high levels of trust and confidence from our treasured customers.

The 1940s...

The business started in 1947 and was formerly known as Kian Seng (建成) Bicycle Shop. Located at Tanjong Pagar, customers were mostly workers from PSA who commuted on bicycles to and fro from work every day. Tommy (current owner of KSH) started out his career in the bicycle industry by helping his father out in the shop when he was 11 years old. He began by grasping basic repairing techniques. As his father showed him the ropes of the business, Tommy began to display interest and was devoted to taking the business to another level.

The 1960s...

The business later moved to Chinatown, Pagoda Street 37 as the land at Tanjong Pagar was claimed to construct the now Amara Hotel. The shop was then renamed to Kian Seng Heng (建成興) Bicycle Trader. During this period of time, steel-bodied Mountain bikes and BMX were trending as Singaporeans began to pick up cycling as a sport, rather than as means of transportation.

The 1980s to 1990s...

18 years flew by and the shop at Chinatown was claimed by the government for renovation purposes. The business then relocated at 50 Tiong Bahru Rd. Tommy saw the trend of mountain biking gaining traction in Singapore and seized the opportunity to revamp the business. Eventually the business was granted authorized dealership for brands like GT, Giant, Cannondale, Specialized, KONA and Haro. Apart from the conventional steel frames, alloy and carbon body frames became the norm for many renowned bicycle brands.

As part of Tommy's aim of heightening brand awareness, he decided to venture into the scene of competitive cycling. Our sponsored cyclist, Mr Larry Boo, attained many championship titles during his competitive days with us at KSH.

Kian Seng Heng also led the pioneer batch of Singaporeans to cycle from Siingapore to Kota Tinggi. Throughout the years at Tiong Bahru, KSH also organized several cycling trips to Malaysia.

2000 - 2015

Business went on for 7.5 years at Tiong Bahru before KSH moved to Kampong Bahru for slightly over a year and eventually to Hougang Ave 5 in 2001, where the business is currently situated. Over the years at Hougang, we continue to meet the biking needs of our customers through the extensive knowledge in the industry and workmanship skills we have gained since we established the business.
